The physical characteristics of the bright iridescent blue tropical fruit known as bastard hogberry inspired researchers to develop a new type of fabric that changes colours when stretched. The scientists used the seed’s skin, which mimics vibrant colours to attract birds, to recreate a light-deceiving pattern that morphs into different colours. The fabric may be used in sports medicine as it would change its colouration when a muscle becomes strained.

Researchers have successfully derived and purified lens epithelium, the tissue from which the lens of the eye develops. Using fluorescence activated cell sorting, the scientists identify the protein markers expressed in the lens epithelium and created lens cells in the lab. This is a huge breakthrough as it may lead to a cure for visual impairment caused by cataracts and other lens damaging diseases.

Hoarders struggle to throw out their possessions because their brains lack flexibility and decision-making capacity, research has found. The study asked hoarders to sort patterned cards into increasingly complex categories, and showed the participants found it extremely hard to maintain attention and make choices, suggesting 'hoarding' is a problem with deeper neurological roots.

The transparent-headed fish: With a head like a fighter-plane cockpit, a Pacific barreleye fish shows off its highly sensitive, barrel-like eyes--topped by green, orblike lenses--in a picture released today but taken in 2004. The fish, discovered alive in the deep water off California's central coast by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), is the first specimen of its kind to be found with its soft transparent dome intact. The 6-inch (15-centimeter) barreleye (Macropi

The kakapo is a strange little flightless bird native to New Zealand. Sadly there are now only 126 kakapo left in conservation areas, where they eat a range of plants. But researchers who have been studying ancient poo samples have recently found that around 900 years ago kakapo ate a lot of pollen from a root parasite known as "Hades flower". The two no longer exist in the same place and Hades flower is also rare, which begs the question - were the birds responsible for pollinating it? Further research needs to be done, but it's an interesting conservation link.

A drug-free placebo pill prevents migraines in children and teenagers just as well as most headache medicines, according to a new study. The research found that only two drugs known to stop migraines in adults worked on children better than a placebo - and even then the difference was quite small. It prompts questions over what causes childhood migraines, and also adds an interesting aspect to the debate over the benefits of placebos.

You can place weights on both side of weighing balance and you need to measure all weights between 1 and 1000. For example if you have weights 1 and 3,now you can measure 1,3 and 4 like earlier case, and also you can measure 2,by placing 3 on one side and 1 on the side which contain the substance to be weighed. So question again is how many minimum weights and of what denominations you need to measure all weights from 1kg to 1000kg.

A genetic breakthrough could help feed millions by identifying more resilient chickpea strains. An international team of scientists have decoded the genomes of 90 chickpea genotypes. Chickpeas are a major source of protein and nitrogen for people in India and many African countries, and the new breakthrough could help them choose naturally occuring strains that will grow better in climate change conditions.

Did you know the people that are the strongest are usually the most sensitive? Did you know the people who exhibit the most kindness are the first to get mistreated? Did you know the one who takes care of others all the time are usually the ones who need it the most? Did you know the 3 hardest things to say are I love you, I'm sorry, and Help me. Sometimes just because a person looks happy, you have to look past their smile and see how much pain they may be in. To all my friends who are going through some issues right now--Let's start an intention avalanche. We all need positive intentions right now. If I don't see your name, I'll understand. May I ask my friends wherever you might be, to kindly copy and paste this status for one hour to give a moment of support to all those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, worries of any kind and just need to know that someone cares.
