The physical characteristics of the bright iridescent blue tropical fruit known as bastard hogberry inspired researchers to develop a new type of fabric that changes colours when stretched. The scientists used the seed’s skin, which mimics vibrant colours to attract birds, to recreate a light-deceiving pattern that morphs into different colours. The fabric may be used in sports medicine as it would change its colouration when a muscle becomes strained.
